Say no to single use plastic with 5 simple ways

As 2022 is fast approaching so is the ban for single use plastics by our NSW government. From June next year, single use plastic bags, straws, cotton buds, plates, bowls and cutlery will be phased out in order to limit the amount of plastic ending up in our oceans and water ways.

Now, plastic is used everywhere, every day and almost for everything, you may ask how this is going to happen? It will be a long process which takes into account the use of single use plastic for health needs, which will be given an exemption.

How often do you use single use plastic in your life? Often? Not often. It is important to utilise keep cups and reusable bags where possible. We understand sometimes we forget and that’s okay, don’t be embarrassed. It really all does come down to practice and getting into a routine, just like we all had to with both wearing masks but also remembering to take one everywhere we go. Encouraging people to make more conscious decision when purchasing items can not only be hard but expensive. Take a moment next time you go to purchase something, and think is there an alternate option that will last longer, service more time?

Ways you can eliminate single use plastic or help with the ban:

  • Give the barista your own reusable coffee mug to have them make your coffee in
  • Dine in instead of getting take away at a restaurant or café
  • Take your own reusable shopping bags when shopping both food and retail
  • Take your own water bottle when going out, to avoid purchasing one
  • Use reusable containers or similar instead of Ziplock bags

Join us in phasing out single use plastic. We hold a strong passion for this and will be doing our part to contribute. We understand that single use plastic is needed in some cases, we encourage that the plastic id recycled appropriately to avoid this ended up where it shouldn’t. Sometimes we forget but make the switch and do what you can where you can.
