How full are your bins every week? I am not here to judge, but would you say every time they get walked to the curb, they are more than 50% capacity? Have you stopped to think how much money is wasted on “packaging” that you just throw away? Do you find yourself thinking about change, but unsure how to go about it?
I remember looking into my recycling bin and realising there was just so much plastic that I was throwing away. Milk bottles, water bottles, packaging and all this was to be recycled, but into what exactly and where?
Last financial year, Australia exported close to 4.5 million tonnes of waste overseas – mainly to Asian nations – at a cost of about $2.8 billion to state and territory budgets.
This so-called “waste” could be used to create brand new products from furniture to roads, insulation and much more. So why are we spending $2.8billion when we could reuse and recycle?
In 2020 only 9% of Australian plastic was recycled… which is just horrible! How did it get so bad?
This is when I knew we had to do something! We could not just watch as our plastic problem got more and more out of control and not do anything. That is how Resourceful Living was created. We aim to recycle and reuse as much plastic as we can possibly push through our factory. This will make not only stop taxpayers from being charged huge amounts to “export” waste but also create products out of what would have just been sent to landfills.
We need everyone to stop putting their head in the sand and the mentality of “out of sight, out of mind.” This is a massive problem and only together can we save our planet!
By joining the Resourceful Living movement, you are signing on to be conscious about what you buy and what you throw away. I am not asking everyone to hoard their plastic or waste, but be conscious if it can be used again.
Most people do not realise that HDPE (2) can be recycled 10 times before it starts to lose any of its strength. So why are we using it once and throwing it away when it has more lives than a cat?
I want you to join us and make a difference, not just in the short term but in the long term. Together we can make a change and we can make plastic more sustainable.
