Plastic pollution is worst now than it has ever been. It is our duty as humans to be eliminating this issue and do our part to prevent our animals’ homes from being destroyed and even worse killing our wildlife.
Ocean
Approximately 14 million tonnes of plastic end up in the ocean every year. Plastic debris is the most profuse type of litter found in the ocean. It makes up 80% of all marine debris found from surface waters to the deep sea. Plastic pollution is a widespread problem affecting the marine environment all over the world. Ocean Plastic Pollution comes from a number of things including stormwater runoff, sewer overflows, littering, inadequate waste disposal and management, and illegal dumping. Over time this plastic breaks down through natural factors and becomes small pieces of plastic that animals believe are food, which then they digest and eventually end up dying. How sad?
Landfill
A landfill is a “pit” in the ground that is divided into sections where all the waste and litter that ends up there is separated into three areas: putrescible waste from municipal collections, commercial and industrial waste, and construction and demolition materials. Only 5% of waste plastic gets recycled with the remaining portion ending up in landfills. The rubbish that doesn’t get recycled is buried in landfills and breaks down at a very slow rate and remains a problem for us today but even worse for future generations. Your kids and your kids, kids. Toxins, leachate, and greenhouse gases are the main problem that arises from landfill, which affects us, humans, when inhaling or being exposed. Say no to landfill and RECYCLE!
Resolving this issue is as simple as putting your rubbish n the bin, recycling products that are capable of being reused, jumping on board “Clean up Australia Day” and other groups alike. One person in one day cannot fix this issue, but together as a community over a period of time we can better this issue and ultimately in the future eliminate Landfill and Ocean Plastic Pollution
